School Committee - Grafton Public Schools · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Grafton School Committee rejected a $200-per-sport athletic fee on a 4-1 vote, citing concerns that the charge would create barriers to athletic participation. Kristy Kielbasinski, who moved the proposal, argued it would help offset the district's $173,000 in annual athletic transportation costs and noted that contract rates will increase 6 percent in FY27 and 7 percent in FY28. Chair Liora Bram, Laura Often, and Rebecca Soco opposed the fee, with Often stating it felt like a "bait and switch" after the community approved the school override.
The Committee also unanimously approved the ACL Protect Act policy as a first and second reading, complying with state law that restricts law enforcement on school grounds during school hours and student arrival and departure windows.
