GRAFTON --
HIGH SCHOOL -- At the Finance Committee's Sept. 30 public hearing on town meeting warrant articles, the Community Preservation Committee presented Article 9, a proposal to help fund a new solar-powered scoreboard for the high school baseball field. Committee members said Grafton Little League and the school's athletic boosters have each pledged $5,000 toward the project, with the school department also committing $1,000. One CPC member said the total project cost is "over forty thousand dollars." Community Preservation funds would cover the remaining balance, which members said could run as high as $22,517, though the actual CPC contribution would likely be lower since, as one member put it, "everybody else's money gets spent first" and CPC funds are spent last. Members said the sign would be solar powered, similar to another town sign recently replaced, addressing a question about whether it would need to sit near electrical conduit. The scoreboard was one of two warrant articles the CPC discussed at the hearing; the other covered drainage and surface repairs at Roney Park in North Grafton and was not related to athletics.
