Zoning Board grants two detached garage variances

Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of April 23, 2026

Grafton zoning board approves two setback variances for detached garages. The board voted unanimously to grant Special Permits and Variances at 7 Milford Road and 257 Worcester Street. At 7 Milford Road, applicant Gerrad Monk received approval for a detached garage 6.1 feet within the side setback on a pre-existing non-conforming single-family dwelling.

Cynthia Thurston at 257 Worcester Street secured a 24-by-28-foot detached garage within front and side setbacks, with discussion of a 150-year-old maple tree and its supporting root structure. Vice Chair William McCusker announced the ZEO will no longer issue Zoning Determination letters; applicants must now obtain denials from the Building Department first.
