School Committee · Meeting of May 13, 2026
Grafton School Committee unanimously approved a narrowed scope for a new fee subcommittee and accepted first readings of two district policies at its May 13 meeting. The committee approved the fee subcommittee's charge, led by member Kristy Kielbasinski, after stripping a deliverable that would have produced draft fee recommendations with dollar amounts, limiting the panel's work to data collection on athletic fees and activity-related transportation costs; members were explicit that no fees are being proposed. The committee also accepted first readings of policy IHBB on Gifted and Talented Education, updated to reflect new Massachusetts Association for Gifted Education guidance, and policy IKB on Homework, revised after feedback from Grafton High School staff and district counsel.
Both policies require a second vote before taking effect. The meeting opened with a presentation by students and staff of GAIN, Grafton Achieving Independence Now, the district's 18-to-22 transition program, whose participants described internships at Bread Guy Breads, the Grafton Food Bank, Quinsigamond Community College, and several other community sites. The committee also completed an open annual evaluation of Superintendent Jay Cummings, noting he logged 507 of a 1,000-classroom-visit goal amid a year in which he simultaneously covered HR director duties.
