School Committee tables $200,000 special ed transfer

School Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026

Grafton School Committee tables $200,000 special ed transfer amid free cash squeeze. Members voted unanimously to accept nearly $950,000 in FY27 federal entitlement grants and to back a new Grafton High School scoreboard with a $1,000 contribution, funded alongside $10,000 from Gaudette Insurance and $5,000 each from Grafton Little League and the GHS Boosters. But a proposed $200,000 transfer into the district's special education stabilization account stalled after Superintendent Cummings said the town's free cash fell to $3.8 million following a $1.2 million draw to cover a health insurance overage, ahead of the Oct. 19 town meeting.

Member Kristy Kielbasinski clashed with Cummings over the budget subcommittee's access to financial records, saying "we just keep delaying and delaying and delaying." New HR Director Laura Cahill reported 45 new hires since July 1. The committee also adopted a new online-form process for public correspondence.
