Library trustees approve fountain, drop rodenticide
Library · Meeting of August 26, 2026
Grafton library trustees back historic fountain's return, drop rat poison. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to support placing a restored 19th-century fountain, once removed from Grafton Common, on the library's front lawn pending Historic District Commission approval, following a pitch from Historical Commission member Joanne Duncan. Trustees also voted to eliminate rodenticide bait boxes around the building and adopt integrated pest management, citing a Select Board ordinance passed in May 2025 banning the poison on town property.
The board approved three warrants totaling $28,081.53 and heard from Library Director Katrina that total circulation jumped from 185,000 to 244,000 items and program attendance nearly doubled to about 24,000 in fiscal 2026. Trustee Chris reported ongoing water damage near the teen room door despite repeated repairs.
