Board of Health backs continued permitting for Tufts labs

Board of Health · Meeting of August 10, 2026

GRAFTON — Board of Health supports Tufts' continued biosafety lab permitting. Consultant Colleen Driscoll's inspection of the biomedical research facilities found only minor, correctable issues with no significant health or safety risk. The Board agreed to request Tufts provide a written response addressing inspection findings and remediation timelines.

Regional Public Health Nurse Bridget Hurley reported 26 MAVEN disease investigations in July and noted a significant increase in tick-borne illnesses, including Alpha-Gal cases, across the collaborative area. The Board approved the FY27 Public Health Excellence Work Plan, funded at approximately prior-year levels with new emphasis on health equity and opioid prevention initiatives.
